In March 2017 James Murphy was named ‘best for tummies’ in Tatler magazine’s Cosmetic Surgery Guide.
Mr Murphy graduated from medical school in 1992 and began his surgical training in the same year. In 1996 he became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and 2001 was awarded the higher postgraduate degree of Master of Surgery (ChM) for research at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Buckinghamshire. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Plastic Surgery, (FRCS (Plast)) in 2002.
In 2004, Mr Murphy was appointed to the position of Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at the prestigious Christie Hospital in Manchester. He started in private practice at the same time and, in 2010, left the NHS to concentrate his energies on full time private practice, establishing Manchester Plastic Surgery, for which he is now Medical Director.
Mr Murphy one of the country’s leading cosmetic surgeons. He is a full member of the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) and the United Kingdom Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (UKAAPS). His areas of specialisation are now rhinoplasty, breast surgery and abdominoplasty.
OUR TEAM
Mr Yapa graduated from Cambridge University in 2005 and completed a PhD at Stanford University in California and King’s College London. He developed an early interest in plastic surgery during placements at Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital.
In 2018, he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS (Plast)) 2018 after completing his plastic surgery training in Manchester. His research interests included facial development, wound healing and anti-scarring and he has published on these topics in international journals.
Mr Yapa has undertaken specialist fellowships in breast, head and neck reconstructive surgery at Charing Cross Hospital London before being appointed as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at St Mary’s Hospital, a renowned major trauma centre.
A full member of the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) and the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), he is experienced in all aspects of cosmetic surgery with a specialist interest in surgical and non-surgical facial rejuvenation.
OUR TEAM
Practice Manager
Pam joined the team in early 2013 as our secretary and initially worked directly with Sue our Practice Manager, providing her with secretarial and administrative support.
Prior to joining the team, Pam worked in Dentistry for 14 years, most recently as a dental receptionist but previously as a Practice Manager and dental nurse. She has also worked in GP Fundholding and Local Government.
Following Sue’s retirement in 2018, Pam took over as Practice Manager and now runs the office. She is the first point of contact for patients, co-ordinates patients’ treatment programmes, admissions and finances.

Surgical Care Practitioner
Jacqueline has had over three decades of working in healthcare. After qualifying as a nurse she underwent further training to become a Surgical Care Practitioner, she has extensive surgical and wound care experience across a wide variety of specialties.
Jacqueline joins the team to care for our patients post-operatively and is available for advice on all aspects of your care within the MPS practice. Prior to your discharge, Jacqueline will visit you, discuss all your post-operative advice and requirements and provide your follow-up dressing appointment.
Jacqueline is responsible for the majority of your post-op dressing appointments and assists Mr Murphy and Mr Yapa with consultations and minor procedures. Following your discharge, Jacqueline will be your personal point of contact for advice and support and will liaise with you throughout your recovery.

Consultant Anaesthetist
Dr Maguire qualified from the University of Manchester and did his postgraduate training in anaesthesia in the UK and New Zealand. His is a Consultant Anaesthetist at the University Hospital of South Manchester and Christie Hospital NHS Trusts where he specialises in anaesthesia for Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, particularly head and neck cancer work, which he undertakes with Mr Murphy.
He is also a Tutor for the Royal College of Anaesthetists and oversees the training of Anaesthetic Registrars in the North West. He has an active interest in research and teaching and specialises in obstetric anaesthesia.

Consultant Anaesthetist
Dr Wisely is a Consultant Anaesthetist to the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Trust and Spire Hospital Manchester. He is an honorary lecturer at the University of Manchester where he is involved in teaching medical students.
After qualifying from the University of Edinburgh he undertook his postgraduate training in anaesthesia in Edinburgh, New Zealand and Manchester. He specialises in anaesthesia for vascular, head and neck, plastics and breast surgery. He also researches pre operative exercise testing and runs the South Manchester Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing Clinic.
